Questions & answers

What's the most important thing when it comes to making the private equity firm-management team relationship work?

Similar to all relationships, the key to a successful private equity – management team relationship is open communication backed by trust and honesty of intentions. This builds the foundation for strong collaboration to build success and overcome the challenges that that arise during a company’s growth.

What motivated you to choose Fort Point?

After meeting the team at Fort Point, the focus on honest and supportive relationships in all aspects made it an easy decision. It was clear how this extended across all aspects, from our portfolio companies to the employees. The strength of the partnerships created through this approach made it even easier to rejoin a second time after coming back from living abroad.

What are the biggest or the common challenges facing your portfolio companies?

We have the opportunity to work with many companies at inflection points as they experience rapid growth and through this one of the biggest challenges is maintaining and leveraging the company’s data. As the company grows across all aspects, from operations, to finance to employee base, it becomes harder to manage without data. Accurate data and clear distillation of the data allows management to maintain operational and financial control across the business and empowers them to make decisions.

Is there one transaction that you worked on that makes you especially proud?

My first transaction with Fort Point, Strata Information Group, stands out. We partnered with two founders who had built the business from the ground up over 30 years and were passionate about serving their customers in the higher education space. Through our partnership, we continued growing the company and expand its services to better serve its non-profit customers.

How did you get interested in private equity?

I initially began my career in investment banking where I really enjoyed meeting company owners and management teams to learn more about the businesses they had built. Private equity provided the opportunity to not only continue this, but also to partner with and support the management teams as they scaled their business.

What’s your favorite way to spend some time off?

Outside of work you can typically find me doing something active outside whether it’s out running the local trails, cycling around the roads, or skiing in the winter. My ideal day starts with a great flat white, and then an outdoor activity followed by some craft beer and food with friends.
